Microsoft Enhances Industry-Leading Host Integration Offering With Host Integration Server 2000

REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 22, 2000 — In a move that further substantiates its commitment to customer satisfaction in the host database and application integration industries, Microsoft Corp. today announced availability of the beta 1 version of Host Integration Server 2000. Traditionally, integration technologies have provided users with only a single technology to solve myriad host integration scenarios. With Microsoft® Host Integration Server 2000, formerly code-named
“Babylon,”
Microsoft provides developers with the breadth of flexible integration technologies needed to solve host integration challenges.

While customers’ needs for integration of applications with back-end systems have grown, the number of traditional mainframe developers has decreased. Host Integration Server 2000 solves this problem by providing easy access to existing mainframe applications and data, thereby preserving investments made in host systems. Built on the industry-leading gateway technology of Microsoft SNA Server, Host Integration Server 2000 provides comprehensive SNA network integration, data integration and application integration technology.

“With Host Integration Server 2000, Microsoft is helping customers solve their challenging integration needs. This product provides a consolidated offering that focuses on a wide range of integration technologies,”
said Chris Olson, group product manager at Microsoft.
“In addition, it extends the Windows® DNA 2000 platform to embrace host systems and allows our customers to choose the technology appropriate for their unique integration needs.”

Host Integration Server 2000 highlights Microsoft’s commitment to providing support and integration possibilities for back-end and host systems through increased performance and ease of configuration for DB2 access, COM+ support for integrated CICS/IMS transactions, and support for Microsoft Message Queue Server 2.0 and IBM’s MQSeries 5.1 for messaging-oriented middleware integration. These features, coupled with SNA scalability and reliability enhancements such as load balancing and hot backup for LU6.2 applications, allow users to build more scalable and reliable integrated solutions while maintaining transactional integrity. In addition, this product has been updated to take advantage of features inherent to the Windows 2000 platform. Host Integration Server 2000 also provides comprehensive, managed host access and a complete integration platform through the utilization of Windows DNA 2000, all while continuing to provide the easiest, most affordable solution on the market today.

Host Integration Server 2000 is the first step toward flexible mainframe integration with front-end systems and the Internet. This beta release is scheduled to be followed by a feature-complete beta 2 version in mid spring, with broad availability expected in mid year 2000.
