Developers: New XAML flexibility, DirectX improvements now in Windows 8.1

In Windows 8, the high-level user interface capabilities of XAML and the low-level rendering power of Direct X were combined within the same app. Now, even more improvements have been added to Windows 8.1, writes Jesse Bishop, Windows User Interface Platform senior program manager, on the Windows App Builder Blog.

German hospital uses Microsoft technologies to create an intelligent operating room

Physicians from all over Europe come to Siloah St. Trudpert Klinikum in Pforzheim, Germany, to learn a special procedure for kidney-stone removal from the man who pioneered it in the late 1990s. In 2010, the hospital upgraded the operating room system to one that uses Microsoft Windows Embedded. The new system enables higher-quality image transmission and integrated control of surgical equipment.
