Microsoft announces its founding sponsorship of the Frankfurt eBook Awards, designed to honor literary achievements in the emerging eBook industry.

At Telecom 99 in Geneva, Microsoft executives outlined the company’s efforts to partner with the telecommunications industry to promote a faster, easier-to-use Internet that brings better services to consumers and greater opportunities to businesses.

At the Internet2 Member Meeting in Seattle this week, Microsoft and other partners in the project are demonstrating nearly a dozen advanced Internet applications over nationwide high-performance networks.

Alexey Pajitnov, lead designer of Microsoft’s new puzzle game Pandora’s Box, says that in designing computer games everyone can enjoy, “I try to eliminate the complexity and just give the pure joy.”
