More than 2 million Romanian teachers, students & parents are already extensively using AI powered by Microsoft

Romania is strongly advanced in integrating advanced technologies in education. In July 2024, the Romanian government approved the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2024-2027, with digital education playing a key role, the number of users of AI-based digital solutions in schools exceeded 2 million.

AI solutions developed by Microsoft allow teachers to prepare their lessons and generate interesting content for students. In turn, students have personalized learning experiences, and parents can receive real-time alerts about possible well-being problems of their children.

In fact, in recent months, school principals have enjoyed an easier decision-making process, based on data and reporting, facilitated by the use of AI-based solutions provided by Microsoft and partner companies.

“Artificial Intelligence is not just a technological advancement; it is a transformative force that is reshaping the educational landscape in Romania. According to the 2024 Work Trend Index, 77% of leaders believe that AI, combined with the skills of young talent, will lead to greater responsibilities at the beginning of their careers. By integrating AI into education, we are preparing our youth for the future. The role of local Microsoft partners is crucial in this transformation. These partners bring invaluable expertise and localized solutions that cater to the specific needs of our educational institutions. Supported by our dedicated partners, the introduction of AI in education is key to unlocking the potential of our next generation and driving innovation forward in Romania” – underlined Bogdan Putinica, General Manager Microsoft Central Europe EURA.

Ascendia, one of Romania’s leading e-learning companies and a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group for Digital Education Content, is an example on how to successfully integrate Microsoft AI to transform education. The company’s flagship e-learning authoring tool LIVRESQ enables tens of thousands of teachers to create interactive lessons and online courses without programming skills. For example, LIVRESQ’s AI creator can generate lesson plans and appropriate content based on  the duration of the material, the subject matter, the age of the recipients, the tone of the material, the language, and special words relevant to the target audience.

“Since 2023, LIVRESQ has empowered Romanian teachers by placing AI directly into their hands, transforming lesson and OER creation into an intuitive, inspiring experience. More than 130,000 teachers from 7,100 institutions are building educational content with the help of the Microsoft AI features found in LIVRESQ . This is fundamentally changing the way education is created, shared, and experienced.” explains Cosmin Mălureanu, CEO of Ascendia. „Building on their local success, the company is expanding to multiple countries, including Poland, Greece, Philippines, Austria, and South Africa.

„Dimitrie Cantemir” Theoretical High School in Iași provides students access to Adservio’s AI Wellbeing module. Children track their emotional well-being, contributing to a more empathetic and safer school environment. Students respond daily to digital questionnaires, and the AI-generated reports help parents intervene quickly when warning signs appear. Parents also use the Evolution module, which interprets their children’s educational journey with the help of Microsoft AI.

“Education needs advanced technology that frees up the time of principals and teachers, and gives decision-makers clear, data-based tools. We are proud that our platform with Microsoft AI built in functionalities is being used by over 1,500 schools and kindergartens and by more than 1.5 million teachers, students, and parents. We continue to invest in the future of education through AI solutions that make a real impact in the lives of students and parents,” says Alexandru Holicov, CEO of Adservio.

While no one likes taking tests, AI can make this one less painful as well. Brio began using Microsoft AI technologies in educational assessment as early as 2023 by integrating test models/items generated based on predefined algorithms. 120,000 training tests were generated with the help of Microsoft AI in the last 12 months. Training tests for high school and automated scoring of essay-type components are just about to be launched.

Gabi Bartic, Chief Operating Officer Brio explains the role of technology in education: „We believe that a classroom cannot function now without a mix of tools that ensure class management, creation and administration of digital content, and student assessment using AI, leaving the much-needed space for personalization and humanization of the educational act”

Also, the use of Microsoft AI at universities is blooming. Avaelgo has engineered an AI Assistant for Universities. The AI-powered assistant delivers key capabilities for students, teachers & staff:
