According to Gartner, “The worldwide market for ECM software grew by 8.6% in 2013, to a revenue total of $5.1 billion, which indicates that ECM technologies continue to attract more users and deliver value to enterprises.” To meet the market’s needs, more ECM vendors are offering cloud-based environments, mobile interfaces and social capabilities.

Gartner writes, “Business benefits from using social software result from improved communications, the ability to influence behavior, and the opportunity to gain insights into specific activities around which social interaction occurs.” The report states that social software can be used in very purposeful ways to get work done, handle exceptions, and make decisions.

This report evaluates Agile BI vendors and Microsoft was placed in the “Leaders” ripple along with Tibco, SAP, Qlik, Information Builders, SAS, Tableau and MicroStrategy. Microsoft received top scores for the features tech professionals need to enable business user BI self-service and capabilities to provision their own BI applications and data, as well as the effectiveness of its UI and ADV functionality. The report states, “Microsoft elevates its leading Agile BI capabilities to the cloud with Power BI”. Microsoft also received high client feedback scores for its product vision.

The x86 server virtualization infrastructure market is defined by organizations that are looking for solutions to virtualize applications from their x86 server hardware or OSs, reducing underutilized server hardware and associated hardware costs, and increasing flexibility in delivering the server capacity that applications need. The x86 server virtualization infrastructure market includes all x86-based workloads (that is, application, Web and database servers; hosted virtual desktops [HVDs]; and file, print and security servers) deployed on standard x86-based physical servers.

Impact of Microsoft Lync on the Enterprise Voice Market – 2014

Based on a survey of U.S. enterprise customers (500+ employees), the report finds 95% of the surveyed are currently conducting, plan to conduct or have completed trials of Lync and 89% of those included or will include enterprise voice in the trials. In addition, 79% said they are either currently deploying or planning to deploy Lync with enterprise voice beyond trials.  The number one reason for deploying Lync with enterprise voice was a lower total cost of ownership (including hardware, software, service & support) than legacy PBX-based solutions.

Forrester analyst Rob Koplowitz notes in the report that “The Leaders all offer very mature and, more importantly, very complete offerings. In addition, each has differentiated in some critical area like integration with a broader portfolio or has provided an established partner marketplace. The end result in each case is a robust core product offering that extends the value through a broader ecosystem.” The report notes that “Office 365 shines when you require a full suite of capabilities in a cloud environment and desire integration and alignment with the broad Microsoft portfolio.”

This report compares survey results of IT & Business leaders involved with Microsoft Lync between this year and last. The report found only 7% of Enterprises surveyed had “no plans” to deploy Microsoft Lync for Enterprise voice, compared to 21% one year ago. 76% of surveyed enterprises stated their Microsoft Lync trials include Enterprise Voice. More than half of enterprises surveyed had either begun to deploy Lync EV or planned to do so. Finally, one quarter of enterprises surveyed listed Microsoft as their preferred vendor for IP-PBXs.
