Fans across Asia joined in the revelry as Xbox unveiled never-before-seen game footage and engaged them in interactive activities via online livestream event #HackTheIce
Greater Asia – November 10, 2015 – To celebrate the global debut of Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusively on Xbox, renowned cosplayer Jenn Croft scaled the world’s highest bungee jump dressed as Lara Croft, the fearless heroine in the Tomb Raider series, before leaping from a 764-feet high platform off the iconic Macau Tower. Hurtling towards the ground at a speed of over 120 km/h, the ground-breaking feat embodied the defining characteristics of Lara Croft, who is known for her incredible strength and perseverance in surmounting challenges as the Tomb Raider.
Stepping into the shoes of Lara Croft, Jenn Croft scaled the AJ Hackett Macau Tower Bungee Jump in a Lara Croft costume of her own creation, complete with gear that Lara can craft and customize in Rise of the Tomb Raider. The exhilaration of Lara’s plunge mirrored the delight of gamers across Asia, as fans tuned in to watch the event via the #HackTheIce live stream.
“Lara Croft is one of the most popular video game characters among female cosplayers, as well as the general cosplay community. She is a great inspiration for people to step out of their comfort zone, take a risk and achieve their goals. This jump is dedicated to all the passionate Lara Croft and Tomb Raider fans from Asia, as well as the rest of the world. I hope everyone will have as much fun playing Rise of the Tomb Raider as I did flying in mid-air,” said Jenn Croft.
As part of the launch celebrations, fans who tuned into to the #HackTheIce live stream got a first-hand preview of never-before-seen footage from Rise of the Tomb Raider, as well as opportunities to interact with Jenn Croft and Meagan Marie, the Senior Community Manager at Crystal Dynamics, the developers of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Fans also took part in an interactive contest where they posed questions bearing the #HackTheIce hashtag to Jenn Croft via social media, and voted to determine which next ice target she will hack to reveal prizes for participating fans.
“What Jenn did was absolutely amazing – this is the first time a cosplayer has ever scaled the world’s highest bungee jump as Lara Croft, and to be able to stream it live to our fans across the world via the #HackTheIce live stream brings it to a whole new level! We are always looking at ways to involve our fans and reward them for the tremendous support they have given us. I’m delighted to see the positive reception from them, and am happy to be bringing the Rise of the Tomb Raider to fans as an Xbox exclusive this holiday in this part of the world,” said Rennie Addabbo, General Manager for Xbox, Greater Asia, Microsoft.
“The Tomb Raider community is passionate, creative and global,” said Meagan Marie, Senior Community Manager at Crystal Dynamics. “Our cosplayers in particular are always pushing the limits of their craft and aiming to embody Lara’s traits of strength, perseverance, ambition, and in this case, a thirst for adventure. Jenn’s jump perfectly mirrored Lara’s spirit, and sharing the footage with fans was a stellar ‘leap forward’ on launch day.”
Rise of the Tomb Raider is now available exclusively on Xbox, and can be ordered via the Microsoft Store.
