Phnom Penh, Cambodia – 22 August, 2016 – Microsoft today formalized its commitment with the Cambodia government to use trusted technology to grow the economy and improve trade and development with the signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), one of country’s leading government bodies that is driving competitiveness in Cambodia and improving trade, investment, and business.
The landmark agreement will cover technology training and education for the Microsoft Khmer Translator Hub, joint education campaigns on cybersecurity and malware threats as well as support the Cambodia ICT (information and communications technology) ecosystem and talent development by engaging with developers, startups and educators.
The MOU signing builds on an ongoing partnership between Microsoft and the Cambodia MOC over the past 12 months to increase awareness of ICT trends, cybersecurity, cloud computing and intellectual property (IP) and trusted technology.
The MOU will cover three broad areas:
- ICT talent and ecosystem development – Microsoft will enhance Cambodia’s ICT ecosystem and develop talent by leveraging youth and technology education resources such as YouthSpark, BizSpark, Microsoft innovative educators, Microsoft Philanthropies and others. Microsoft will be announcing upcoming initiatives to support youth and technology education in Cambodia.
- Education campaigns on cybersecurity and malware threats – Microsoft will work with MOC on joint education campaigns to raise awareness on cybersecurity and malware threats as well as the dangers from the use of pirated software.
- Technology training and development – Microsoft to provide technical training and support for a localized version of Microsoft Translator under development.
Held at the Ministry of Commerce, the MOU signing was attended by Cambodia Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak; General Manager, Southeast Asia New Markets for Microsoft Asia Pacific Michelle Simmons and representatives of both parties.
