Microsoft and Adecco Group’s Modis to skill 200,000 IT professionals in Japan by 2025

The skilling collaboration will empower tech professionals’ continuous career development through reskilling and upskilling initiatives, to advance Japan’s digital economy

Asia Pacific, 21 January 2022 — Microsoft Japan and Modis, a subsidiary of HR solutions leader The Adecco Group, have announced a skilling collaboration to develop 200,000 IT professionals by 2025 – to help further drive digital transformation of the public and private sector.

Through this collaboration, Microsoft and Modis seek to support 100,000 non-IT professionals and job seekers to receive training that will facilitate their career development or aid their employment in the tech sector. Another 100,000 IT professionals will be equipped with industry-leading cloud technology skills. Initiatives will also include supporting upskilling and reskilling to expand the base of citizen developers across industries and governments, so that employees can solve IT issues and develop apps in-house.

Employment, job change and learning support will be provided to the unemployed and job seekers to close the country’s skills gap. Modis and Adecco Group will contribute additional human capital and employment support, while Microsoft will provide learning opportunities via Microsoft Base and Microsoft Learn. The collaboration will be instrumental in supporting the development and growth of digital human resources, to drive overall digital transformation, inclusive economic and societal progress in Japan.

Katsura Ito, Executive Officer, Chief Learning Officer, General Manager, Professional Skill Development Division, Microsoft Japan, said: “In Japan, the working population is declining with a shortage of IT professionals, and there is huge urgency to plug the digital skills gap with skilling and reskilling. Continuous learning is part of Microsoft’s culture, and we are committed to having employees, enterprise customers and the community gain equal access to digital training and skilling. We hope that this collaboration with Modis will enable both IT and non-IT professionals to gain the right skills and ultimately help advance digital transformation and economy in Japan.”

Kenichiro Kawasaki, President, Adecco Group Japan and Country Head, Modis Japan, said: “We are very pleased to collaborate with Microsoft Japan to upskill and reskill talent. At Modis, we have been actively contributing to the digital transformation and business expansion of customers through developing talents. Through this collaboration, we will be able to make greater impact across public and private sectors, providing more opportunities for learning and growth. We are committed to supporting talent growth in the country and digitally transform its labor market to drive social and economic progress for Japan.”

The partnership seeks to provide the following in Japan:

  1. Education and training to support the digital transformation of organizations and local governments, and productivity of individuals and teams with Microsoft Office certification. This also includes upskilling of individuals to take on IT-related roles with skills around Microsoft Azure and Power Platform. These will allow organizations to establish better agility in advancing their digital transformation.
  2. Enhanced organizational work environment and culture in organizations through better recruitment and training frameworks, better labor market liquidity, and more skills-based opportunities.
  3. Revitalized human capital function in organizations, so that individuals are engaged in continual skilling and reskilling that will be useful for further career growth that will in turn benefit the organization they are in.
